Hey! I, rather The Hot Mess Kitchen got nominated to share a few interesting points as part of a Liebster Award challenge. I was nominated by Karen who writes over at SpOIL My Family. No, I did not type the name of her blog wrong. You read right, SpOIL. See, Karen and I share the same passion for something that I have written about in the past. That would be essential oils! Not only can she write-up an interesting post about essential oils, she even mentions the words “Foodie”, “Wine”, and “Glamping” in her about page. That in a nut shell is just awesome to me so I think we can be friends.
In case you were wondering how the essential oil quest was going, I have an appointment for the dentist in August but am still using peppermint essential oils for mind clarity and lavender essential oils with epsom salt for one of the best DIY spa nights for your feet. I’ve got some funny pictures with giraffes and a dolphin posted and you can ready all about them in the Essential Oil Showdown.
So let’s get on with it. The Liebster Award. What is it. Well…. in the blogging community it’s a way to stumble upon a new and up and coming blog that you might not have heard of before. Obviously you found something interesting on that blog and decided to stick around and follow for a bit to see what happens. Karen was entertained by my crazy toddler stories and ability to whip up a Hot Mess in the kitchen, so she nominated me. And for that I say “Thank You, Karen“. If I can get this stuff out of my head and entertain a few folks in the process, than I have done my due diligence and can muster up a few more things to talk about.
I would like to nominate the following (5) blogs in the next round of the 2015 Liebster Awards…
Mess to Beautiful, Queen of my Castle 3, Menu Mommy, All Inspired Mom, and Adventures of Frugal Mom.
Along with my nomination came a challenge to answer 11 random questions about myself along with dishing out 11 questions for my nominees. There are rules for this thing floating somewhere around the blogosphere, but I am just going to follow along as the person before me did.
Why did I nominate the above bloggers to follow me on this post. Because I love their blogs, plain and simple. Each blog is unique.
Heather from Mess to Beautiful is faithful and patient. She is also my partner in crime over at CarolinaBlogging.com. We somehow found each other via the word wide web and are blog BFF’s. IDK what I did to deserve such a friend, but I sure do appreciate her and the work she has put in to develop and foster a dream of a place where bloggers can meet friends from around North & South Carolina.
Dana from Queen of my Castle 3 is a fellow foodie, family, travel and DIY blogger like myself. I sometimes feel like I am right there along side Dana nodding my head as she writes. We share similar views of parenting and DIY.
And my final nominee is Melissa from Adventures of Frugal Mom. I think we talk daily, or at least a few times a week on Facebook. I met her girls at a blog conference we held in March and love, love, love all of the heart felt work she does for her blogs (she has 3 along with working on several others with co-hosts). She is also walking along side me as an admin for CarolinaBlogging.com and listens as I ramble crazy ideas for what I want to do next in the direction for that blog.
First up, let’s get some answers to the questions Karen left for me on her blog post. As entertaining as my answers may be, I will follow with 11 random questions in no particular order that are sure to entertain the next set of nominees. 🙂
Here are my questions to answer.
1. Why do you blog?
I started blogging in August 2014 as a frugal coupon blogger. I have been using coupons to save where I can with our budget since 2009 when my son was born. Having been given the opportunity to “learn to blog” via an online course, I jumped in with both feed and have been blogging ever since. My “niche” has changed a few times from a coupon blog over to a parenting blog, but it’s the same old me!
2. What did you do before you wrote your blog?
I worked full-time in a call center and continue to hold a full-time job while running my websites on the side.
3. What was one quality that your high school BFF had that you admire?
Her ability to be crazy and sporadic no matter what the occasion.
4. Where did you go on your most interesting vacation?
I don’t know if you would really call this a vacation, but it was an educational tour that my sister and I had the opportunity to take right after high school. We went to England, Ireland and Wales. What made it so interesting was that it was outside of the United States and allowed us to visit places like Windsor Castle, The Cliffs of Moher and even the opportunity to kiss the Blarney Stone!
5. What is the biggest kitchen fail you’ve ever had?
That would be the time I melted a pot. What, you have not done that?
Embarassing enough as it was, it inspired me to write this little beauty of a post called “How to handle a Melted Pot“.
6. What television character are you most like?
Hmm, IDK. I am not going to lie. I copied question #6 and threw it in Google to see if I could find a handy-dandy quiz to lead me in the right direction. Per BrainFall.com and their intuitive quiz on “Which classic TV character are you?”, I have been advised that I am most like …. well. Let me just show you. I even linked you in the results page if you are just that darn curious.
7. What is the last photograph on your phone? Post it if you dare!
That’s an easy one. It was lunch and totally FOOD related. It’s got my blog watermark on it and I invite you to click on the picture to read about this delicious yellow fin tuna sandwich found over at CarolinaBlogging.com.
8. What bumper stickers or magnets do you have on your car?
It’s pretty minimalistic. There is a fish sticker for the aquarium and the typical #saltlife sticker.
9. Would you rather time travel 50 years back or ahead? Why?
I can’t Google this one. I think forward so I can see my children grow up.
10. What is sitting on your nightstand right now?
An iPad, headphones, a bible, a bottle of water, and LOTS of pictures of my dogs and kids.
11. What is something that many people don’t know about you?
I love getting my hair done. It is the one time in my schedule where I can sit and literally do nothing. I force myself to put my cell phone down and literally think of nothing. I don’t have to think or answer questions. I can just sit and stop for a minute.
Alright, now to those 11 Questions that I am passing on to my fellow nominees –
#1 – Name a time when you danced and got caught when you thought no one was looking. What happened next?
#2 – Why did you name your blog what you did? I know the reasons why, but others may not.
#3 – If there were one opportunity that you were given in your lifetime that would just knock your socks off, what would it be and why?
#4 – I copied from one of my questions. Why did you start blogging?
#5 – Favorite season of the year and why.
#6 – If your blog had a hairstyle, what would it look like? I’d like to think The Hot Mess Kitchen would have a trendy bob cut dyed in different colors for different seasons.
#7 – Imagine you can see in to the future. What do you see?
#8 – What was the last movie you watched, whether it had been on TV or at a movie theater?
#9 – What is your response to the “Pumpkin Spice” phenomenon that happens every fall?
#10 – Do you share your blog with anyone, or work at it alone?
#11 – Tell us about yourself without using the word “the” in any of your sentences. I got this from an English teacher who encouraged us to use a thesaurus. I am interested to see your answers, so please tag me in them on Facebook!
There ya have it folks. I hope you enjoyed all 1525 words of wisdom listed above and I am looking forward to seeing who is nominated next!
Until the next Hot Mess…..
